With the Dalai Lama

Spent the last few days in Dharamsala, northern India. And was lucky enough to have a 45 minute meeting with the Dalai Lama yesterday. We spoke about Tibet, Afghanistan and life. I can't ever remember encountering such a gentle and sincere man.

Nice pic. Similar hairstyles! As they say birds of a feather flock together1
(No disrespect intended - just found it humorous)

Kudos! anything on Afghanistan you found interesting and/or corroborating? ala Louis Palmer's: Adventure in Afghanistan - about the transference of important materials for safekeeping, etc.

Excellent, Tahir! I often feel the Dalai Lama's warm and gentle "presence" when I need it most.

Great photograph of what must have been a wonderful meeting, Tahir!

Hope you'll write about it sooner than later :)

Dear Tahir,
Perhaps you and your readers would like to read- or in your case re-read, the story "The Shrine" in Caravan of Dreams which might help to put your meeting in a broader context.
Take care,
Brook
p.s. re: the Dalai Lama's pronouncements on world affairs. He may be a very kind and gentle man,(and I am glad that you had such a pleasant experience!) but when I have read what the Dalai Lama has to say on the state of the world, I am reminded of something that Bob Dylan answered 44 years ago when he was asked why he stopped writing protest songs,"because every "protest" song I've heard says the same thing,"let's all hold hands and everything will be grand!"

Okay... I have decided that I shouldn't be mysterious and subtle but rather blunt and to the point. I just don't trust the Dalai Lama. His ties to nazis such as herman harrer, Bruno Beger and Miguel Serrano- who wrote books with such stirring titles as National Socialism the hope of South America and Adolf Hitler the ultimate Avatar- are huge questions that beg to be answered. In addition, he described the Japanese terrorist/ cult leader as having the"mind of a buddha" and still defended him after he was arrested. He may be personally charismatic, but I just don't trust him People who met Hitler were also charmed.t

whoops! the name of the japanese cult leader was Asahara.
Take care.

Dear Tahir Shah,

Surely it must make a difference?

To live surrounded by beauty at Dar Khalifa.

To visit with as gentle and sincere a man as the Dalai Lama.
